Ewa Hinz from culinary blog 'Typical-Untypical Pastries' tells us why she started blogging and why she loves cooking...

Why you started blogging?

I really like to cook and love to serve my dishes to my family and friends. A few months ago, I was browsing through blogs on the internet and I thought to myself that I can have my own blog, why not! Unfortunately, I didn't have enough self-confidence, lacked faith in myself and I postponed the decision, until I finally matured to it. My blog was created on Oct 19, 2011. There is also another reason to have a blog. Being a mother of a disabled child, I have a fairly limited career opportunities, and I had a great need - and I still have - to be fulfilled in order for my own sake, for my own well-being and even to a small extent for my dream as a visual journalist to come true. Writing a blog gives me happiness and satisfaction, and this taken together gives me strength to face not always colorful days.

On your blog you write about the impact that food has on our health. Why are you interested in this particular topic?

This is a good and important question. I will repeat what I have written on the blog. I read in the late '90s, "Diet for new America", and then in 2002, "Food Revolution" radically changed my view on food in general and on the diet itself. Facts such as where the food comes from, what it contains and how it can affect our health and well-being.
After these lectures I know too well what might be hidden in food and that's why I strongly believe in what I buy, where, and if I don't know the product yet, I carefully read the label. For example, I do not buy bread (these days, I bake my own), where 15 or more ingredients are listed, and most of them I can't even read. This information tells me that in addition to flour, water, salt, seeds, etc, are ingredients that shouldn't be there at all. Following principle is very close to me "we are what we eat". If you are interested in this subject refer to the posts on my blog titled "And did you know ..."

Do you enjoy cooking? What's the best in it and who usually enjoys your cooking specials?

Cooking - I love it! The most enjoyable moment is when at the end of the meal, I see  smiles on faces' of my loved ones. As usual, my family; husband and children are the first ones to taste my food. Of course we have family and friends visits, and I also try to please their taste. It happened that my husband's and my birthdays are close together and on this special occasion, once a year, I throw a huge party for our Polish and international friends. To this day I prepare food for a couple of weeks, First I decide on the year's culinary topic, such as Italian cuisine, Polish or maybe Turkish, and then, very carefully search for characteristic recipes of the dishes.

Currently you live in Germany. What foods are specific to your region?

Actually we live in Germany on a diplomatic mission on behalf of the American government, and in my menu, you can find the influence of three traditional Polish, American and German cuisine.
A very typical dish for my current region and known throughout Germany are white and green asparagus. Schwetzingen, the city's district where I live, is considered to be the world capital of asparagus. During asparagus feast day, each year, a queen of this delicious and healthy vegetable is elected. From  April to June, at every stall, in every store, and every farm you can buy asparagus.

What do you think of Cooklet?

I'm still a novice on the platform and continue to recognize its potential. I love the fact that the recipes are available in two languages, and thus the platform can benefit people throughout the world.
